Pelligari Aftermath-In Character Discusssion
on: June 9, 2013, 15:23

Having worked on the prosecution of Rao Pelligari, I am horrified that a noble of Amthydor would feel that subverting the law is okay. His fall has left several issues that the Lord Monarch needs to resolve. While I have no authority in any of this, I was just curious what you, the adventuring community think should happen.

What do you think should happen to the house in the Nobles District?

Do you think the Lord Monarch should split the nobles into a high and low council?

If he does, what families do you think should be on each council?

Just a point of curiosity for me. Thanks for your time,

Neandra

The half-orc lanista straitens his coat as he begins to address Neandra, "well, from what I know, the pompous fool got exactly what was coming to him, I'm just sad I didn't get to do the duty and remove his head. For too long I think the nobles have been scheming and plotting against one another to trust them with two councils, that would only lead to more infighting as they try to 'better' their houses through subterfuge and suffering of those not of noble blood (aka, adventurers and commoners in general). If anything a two council system will fracture the city faster than the nobles are working towards currently."

Sitting back, Andoen pauses to collect his thoughts, "as for the house in the Noble District, I saw we leave it a fire gutted wreck and turn the lands into a public park; a monument and reminder that actions do have consequences. I know a could of casters who'd be more than willing to lob five dozen or so fireballs as part of the demonstration.

"And if, and only if, the city has two councils, I think it needs one for the nobles where each house gets one vote, and one council for each district, voted upon the long term residents every two years for a single term in office. Since the reconstruction of Amthydor a decade ago after the Undead Invasion, subsequent Elf War, the madness with the elemental gods, and the meteor in the night sky; I'd say that Amthydor is a changed city in a world undergoing massive changes. The city can either adapt to survive the new world itself, or become stuck in the past and ready for extinction."

The lanista Andoen is from a long line of warlords hailing from the Northern Wastes, a rugged land of violence where only the strongest survive. Kidnapped from his homeland as a child, the barbarian was a slave-warrior until his escape into the Sea of Fire. Living for a while with the tribesmen of the desert, he left them and traveled to the Shining Jewel. Making his home in this strange city, Andoen’s legend has grown through numerous adventures.
Andoen is the guild master of the Company of the Black Wolves, an adventuring guild gaining recognition throughout the city for their exploits.

Calla turns to Tiny and Mouse, after some whispering, woofing, and hissing, calla addresses the group. We propose that the house be used for the empowerment of the common folk instead of their subjugation. Let it be a public house of education and refinement. Have it become a school for all who wish to learn regardless of class or race. ….oh and Tiny wants a pool. He says there aren't enough pools to swim in. 😉

as for the nobles, I say they should stew in equality on one council regardless of size or wealth. splitting them up only encourages them to think they're better than others based on their social status. I also like the idea of having one nobles council and one district council for the commoners to be represented. Good idea Andoen, I didn't think you had that under all the cleaving of skulls. 🙂

The dynamic duo of Calla the Druid and her trusty crocodile Tiny began in 2008 when they wandered into the Adventurer’s guild following a funny looking monk. Since then, the pair have been an inferno barbequing bad guys in the service of good and the natural order. Most recently, they’ve adopted a pet witch that Calla found named Flidaiss and formed a tentative alliance with a not so stuffy paladin of Galvant named Michelle Carpenter.

What do you think should happen to the house in the Nobles District?

Sell it to whatever other noble is willing to pay for it give the money to the victims as reparations.

Do you think the Lord Monarch should split the nobles into a high and low council?

No this would just result in more petty little wars trying to increase their status

If he does, what families do you think should be on each council?

<do you have a list of houses so I can be sure which house I am thinking of>

<these are Dean's Opinions I just didn't want to over complicate the writing and well he knows the noble houses better than me so I want a full list to make sure what he is saying>

Tempesta gets a haunted look on her face as she ponders the question. After a minute of thinking in which her expression goes through any number of changes (including pained), she looks up and responds, "I am glad the bad man that ran that horrible place my late unlamented owner worked for is dead. What he allowed should never have been. I think his home should be turned into a museum that uses illusions to reproduce the horrors so that all can see what it was like. If all see it they will remember and in remembering it will hopefully never happen again." She gets a look of finality on her face and holds her arm out as a falcon swoops down and lands on it. She looks at the bird and asks, "Right Chickadee?"

Chickadee responds with a loud *Screeee* of seeming agreement.

What do you think should happen to the house in the Nobles District?

Sell it, although the house should remain restricted to uses approved for the Nobles District. Use the money to sponsor or reward adventurers doing things for Amthydor and its citizens, especially fighting injustice.

Do you think the Lord Monarch should split the nobles into a high and low council?

It depends on their organization, charters and powers, and the goals. Splitting powers and responsibilities according to each family's capabilities and demonstrated loyalty could work. If you agree with the idea of splitting people into classes of nobles, citizens and "others", why not split them further? It's natural to trust some people more, and it's also good to motivate people and give them goals. This shouldn't be rushed, and should be carefully deliberated after researching historical precedents. If it is changed, it's important that the transition be well-planned.

If he does, what families do you think should be on each council?

The ones who bid the highest to be on each seat, with the position valid for X years, with staggered auctions (not all happening at the same time for the sake of stability). Use the money thus earned to sponsor or reward adventurers doing things for Amthydor and its citizens. Should there be money left when the seat changes hands, use it for other useful work to improve and repair the city. There should be enough seats so that one seat changing hands won't cause a great shift of power, yet few enough that they are desirable. A family shouldn't have a seat on both councils, I think.

This could help make the use of adventurers to defend the city, sustainable.
