ANNOUNCING OUR NEW CONTEST FOR NOVEMBER
/ DECEMBER
This is one for the Bard in all of us!
Due to so many people traveling and the distractions
of the holidays, this will be a two month contest, ending on December
31st, 2005.
The Contest
Myths and Legends of Raia (500 - 1000 words)
Create a myth or legend about something from Raia's history. This can
be about a place, a person, a creature, an artifact, etc. The legend
need not be completely true, but it should be remotely plausible within
the campaign setting.
For example: White Wyrm Gap (Place)- Far to the west, past where anyone
from Amthydor has ever been, the Great Trade Road winds through a gap
in the Whitethorn Mountains. The mountains stretch for thousands of
miles in both directions, but where the road crosses them the terrain
for half a day to both the north and south is as flat as any farmer's
field. Eons ago, according to legend, those mountains were once home
to Prism, the greatest and most ancient of all the dragons. Hunting
there was plentiful, and treasure was easy to come by, so Prism was
content. But a clan of white dragons coveted Prism's territory, the
horde that she had gathered in her long life, and her position as the
leader of the dragons. One cold and bitter winter the white dragons
came seeking to take what the old one had kept for herself for so many
centuries. Though less skilled, they had the advantage of numbers, and
they sought to force Prism from her lair and destroy her. For an entire
month the storm of their battle raged, and at the end of the battle
only Prism remained, with the carcasses of her defeated foes lying in
a great towering pile where they had crashed to the ground, crushing
the very mountains beneath them. When spring came and the snows melted,
the last remains of the defeated dragon clan melted away with them,
leaving only a gap of flattened earth dividing the great range. The
Whitethorn Mountains, once too treacherous to cross even during summer,
no longer prevented contact and trade between the western lands and
the central kingdoms. A great trade road was built, passing through
what came to be called White Wyrm Gap, and uniting a continent.
